Some are called to the suit and tie.
Some are called to the desk.
Others are called to protect and serve.
Then there’s us: we’re called to the earth.
We’re called not only to produce food and fiber for the Mesilla Valley, but to produce it in the most sustainable manner.
We plant on faith and experience. We understand our task, and know that no matter what direction the wind blows, we will remain here: here in the soil until we are called to rest, at which time they will lower us back into the the earth, where we have always been.
We’re proud to be called to the earth.
How Hill Farms Got Started
Hill Farms’ roots reach all the way back to Tennessee.
Jim Hill grew up on a tobacco and hay farm in southeast Tennessee. College called Jim to the Southwest, and the Mesilla Valley called him back to work in the earth.
When Jim and Debby founded Hill Farms in 1969, it was a small forage farm growing wheat and alfalfa. The Hills took pride in raising their crops and their five children on this land.
Three Generations in the Fields
In 1998, Jim and Debby’s son, Jay, decided the only office view for him was the ever changing crops and skies of Hill Farms. Since Jim and Jay began farming together, the farm has grown to encompass 900 acres of fresh produce, feed crops, and livestock.
Each of the five Hill children have worked on the farm as adults, and today brothers Jay and Ross (in charge of maintenance) are hard at work in the fields with Jim. Their nephew Kaleb Rush shares their passion for feeding the Mesilla Valley, and has been hard at work learning the trade, while Debby manages the books and makes sure the boys stay fed!
Connecting You to Your Food
We’re all about family, and we’re all about connection.
It’s our job not only to feed you, but to connect you with your food–to help you understand where your food comes from and how we grow it. You can trust our family to produce quality food for yours, in a manner that respects the land we love and depend on.
And you’re always welcome to come see how we raise your food and beef at Hill Farms; we’re proud to show you around and and make a direct connection between our family farm and your family table.

- Produce: We’re your spot for the best tasting Pecans, Pinto Beans, Onions (sweet, hot, red, white, and yellow), Red and Green Chile, and other seasonal vegetables.
- Feed: We grow high quality alfalfa that is free of blister beetles and weeds, as well as beardless wheat.
- Beef: We sell our cows straight to you! You select your animal (grass-fed or grain-fed) and we deliver it to a local butcher for you. You decide what cuts your family wants and pick up your meat as soon as they’re finished. That’s what I call farm-fresh!
